So I have decided to write up ... I guess what I would consider a review, or maybe a rant against all the negative reviews of the new Linkin Park album, A Thousand Suns. Take it as you will.
First off... this album is completely different from anything they have done to this date... if you do not go into this album knowing this and/or you are a hardcore Hybrid Theory/Meteora fan. Well then you probably will not like this much in the beginning or at all. But the truth is ... this Album is an amazing piece or work/art.
I found an anonymous post on a negative review I read this morning and I would like to use it here... I have no idea whom posted it... but it fits this situation perfectly:
"It's funny how the music business works. Release an amazing debut album, and it is generally recognized as such by critics and laymen, helps to set a new genre standard, is replayed for years, and assists the band in building a huge fan base. After that is when things get weird. If the band in question decides not to vary their formula, makes mediocre music that retains many of the elements of their original material, and plays it safe, their fans stick by them and the critics aren't too harsh. However, if the band realizes that to make a real, long-lasting impact on the world they must be fluid, maturing with every album, changing their sound, exploring new territory, they are vilified by former "fans" and critics alike. They are disparaged all over the internet, ignored and/or disemboweled by elitist music listeners, and their efforts at making cutting-edge, mature, different music are mocked, whether or not the mockery is justified. And in many cases, it isn't."
I could not agree with the above more. There are so many people out there... who seem to not be able to accept change. Either you like the new direction Linkin Park is going and you continue to enjoy their work, or you don't ... simple as that. Why must people continue to go around complaining when we all know Linkin Park has made their choice of what direction they want their sound to take.
Linkin Park is a band that has staying power. Why? Because they can change their sound and grow as time moves on. Not sit there and put out the same music over and over again for money and to keep the fans "happy". As long as they are happy making the music they want then that is all that really matters.
This album is absolutely amazing. It is the best idea on at least the first listen... to listen to it as an "album" all the way through without skipping... you will appreciate it even more.
Take everything Linkin Park used to be... and throw it out the window... except maybe 1% of that. There are so many standout tracks. Even the interludes are pretty epic. I am not going to hit every song, mainly because my judgment will be different than yours... this post is just to get the word out there about Linkin Park’s new sound and why people need to not judge it so harshly.
So far after maybe... 10 or so listens to the entire album... my favorite song is Waiting for the End. All the tracks are great though.
The tribal drums in When they Come for Me sound great. Chester's chant style singing in Blackout does not disappoint. And the amazingly beautiful singing and composition in Iridescent is second to none!
Like I said before I am not going to touch on every song... this post is just to get the visibility of the positive side out there. Maybe one or two people whom have not appreciated the album yet will read it and see that quote above that I posted and it will click for them!
I know what I wrote above is no feat of great writing, I just wanted to state my opinion, here is hoping at least one person realizes that no band should be hated on for growing. Even if that does mean a sound change from how they used to be.
If you do not like the album... that is fine... but do not hate on the band when they only did what they as a band wanted their music to sound like.
